Racing Kid is Back!

October 3, 2017

Due to popular demand, Racing Kid is back... Benji has once again taken over my blog! Enjoy...

Hi, it's Benji here again! On Sunday I went to Caulfield for Underwood Stakes Day.  It was also Clip Clop Club Day and there was heaps of fun things for kids to do. One of the coolest horses I've ever met was there again too - Apache Cat.

I got to give Apache Cat a pat and feed him some pieces of carrot. Lots of people were also giving him pats and wanting to learn more about him. He was very excited walking around his yard and he kept looking out to the horses on the racetrack.  I think he wanted to race there again!

Apache Cat was trained by Greg Eurell at Cranbourne and raced 43 times. He had 19 wins, 4 seconds and 7 thirds.  Eight of his wins were Group 1 races, with 5 of them in a row all ridden by Corey Brown! He raced in burgundy and lime colours.

Apache Cat had to stop racing in 2009 because he fractured his leg in the Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin, Hong Kong. He now lives at Living Legends. He was born on 13 November, 2002.  He is a big chestnut horse with great white markings on his face that look like paint splatters. His sire is Lion Cavern, who raced in America.

Living Legends is a big farm behind Melbourne Airport where champion racehorses go to retire when they finish racing. Apache Cat lives there with horses like Might and Power, Prince of Penance, Paris Lane, and Silent Witness from Hong Kong. My mum took me there when we first moved to Melbourne. It was fun to feed the horses carrots and hear about the races they all won.

It was great to see Apache Cat again. I am also very excited to go to Flemington this Saturday to cheer for Winx in the Turnbull Stakes and to see my favourite jockey, Hugh Bowman. Hopefully Winx can win her 21st race in a row and Hughie can give us another 'She's Apples!" If he throws out his goggles, I'm going to try catch them!
